CARETTA CARETTA Turtle Spotting in the Gulf of Laganas

Within the Bay of Laganas there are a number of options for turtle spotting – one of the most popular boat trips for tourists in Zakynthos. You can take a boat from the beach at Laganas, the port at Agios Sostis, or from the smaller resorts of Agios Sostis, Porto Koukla and Keri which all sit within the Gulf of Laganas.

The Caretta Caretta Loggerhead Turtles use Zakynthos as their main nesting ground in the Mediterranean and will return to the same beach they were born on to lay their eggs.

The turtle spotting boat trips are monitored by the National Marine Park of Zakynthos to ensure that they are as unobtrusive on the turtles as possible. You can enjoy seeing the turtles swimming in their natural environment and will often see them popping up to the surface for air.

Often your boat trip to enjoy turtle spotting can be combined with a trip to Marathonisi (Turtle) Island and the Keri Caves – this was you get a really fun few hours out on the sea and have the opportunity to enjoy some of the most beautiful scenery on the island of Zante.

Boat Trips to The Keri Caves

The Keri Caves, located on the south western coast of the island of Zante, are one of the most popular things to see at sea! With crystal clear, turquoise blue waters, and plenty of sea caves to explore, you won’t be disappointed with a boat trip in this region. The white cliffs in this area are really dramatic and the stunning arches coming out of the sea make for fantastic photos.

Boat trips and Picnics - Marathonisi (Turtle) Island

During your holiday in Zakynthos it is well worth taking a boat trip to the famous Marathonisi ‘Turtle’ Island. This picturesque turtle shaped island lies in the middle of the Bay of Laganas, floating like a turtle in the sparkling seas. The main beach on Marathonisi is really spectacular, with white sands and turquoise seas – this is the Greek Islands at their best!

Boat trips to Shipwreck also known as Navagio Bay

While you are on holiday in Zante, make sure you enjoy the beautiful beach at Shipwreck ‘Navagio’ Bay – one of the most famous beaches in the Mediterranean. You can only reach this beach by boat, so this is a great chance to get out on the sea during your stay in Zakynthos. You can take one of the bigger round the island boats to see the Shipwreck Beach, or you can drive to one of the ports on the north and west coast where smaller boat trips leave throughout the day to this magical beach.

Boat trips to The Blue Caves

The Blue Caves of Zante are one of the most popular site seeing excursions for people visiting this beautiful island of Zante. The stunning rock formations in the northern region of Skinari are famous for being surrounded in bright blue and sapphire waters.

If you do get a chance to visit the northern region of the island, we really recommend taking a boat trip from Skinari to see the Blue Caves. From here you will be taken in a small glass bottom boat which can take you right into the caves for a really memorable Zante holiday experience.

Trips Away from the island of Zante

During your holiday in Zante you will also have the chance to take a trip off the island to some of Greece’s main attractions. Day trips run to the neighboring island of Kefalonia, where Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was based, and also to the Ancient Greek site of Olympia. Further afield, overnight trips to Athens are also on offer where you can take in the grand sites of the Acropolis and other magical sites.
