The beach isn’t just about lazing around under the
sun though! These beaches offer lots of fun adrenaline filled water
sports action that will really make your holiday exciting!
Sharing the stretch of golden sandy beach with the neighbouring
resort of Alykes, Alykanas is a small resort, popular with families and
couples who are looking for a relaxing break. Although catering well for
the tourist market with various shops, restaurants, tavernas and bars
available, Alykanas has kept a traditional feel and slower pace of life
than some of the larger resorts on the island.
Alykanas is slightly smaller than neighbouring Alykes and with its
little fishing harbour has a quiet and peaceful atmosphere. Watersports
and wind surfing are available on this stretch of coastline and from the
beach there are clear views of Kefalonia island, just north of Zante.
The small coastal tourist resort of Alykanas is located around 16
kilometres outside of the town of Zakynthos and 2 kilometres from Alykes.
Alykanas is one of the quieter resorts on the island – with little
nightlife beyond restaurants and one or two small bars. Although a quiet
area, Alykanas is only a short walk from the slightly more lively resort
of Alykes.
Around Alykanas is some of the islands lushest countryside with grape
vines and verdant fields! The area around Alykanas is relatively flat
which gives rise to opportunities for cycling and exploring the
surrounding countryside and small villages on foot. It is commonly
thought that the ancient city of Arkadia was in this area as remains of
Mycenean vases were found here.
There are several hotels of all categories, studios and rooms to let
in and around Alykanas. Most of them are open from April or May until
October. You can book online, through a tour operator, or take your
chances and choose your accommodation on arrival.
