ZANTE MONASTERY ON MOUNT SKOPOS
If you are keen to see some of the more historical sites on the
island of Zante, then a trip up Mount Skopos to see the stunning
monastery at the top should be on your list of things to do. Recently
renovated, the Skopiotissa Monastery is really stunning – perched on top
of the mountain with sweeping island views all around.
Heading towards Vasilikos on the coastal road from Argassi resort,
there is a small road pointing up to Mount Skopos. Beware that this is a
rather rough road, with some sharp corners and steep drops. If you are
weary of old fashion Greek roads you might want to give this trip a
miss.
Once you reach the top you will be amazed by the beautiful Ochra
monastery and surrounding area. All recently renovated to its original
state, this place really takes you back in time to another era.
The views from the top of Mount Skopos are beautiful in themselves –
on a clear day you can see most of the island from up here. If you are
brave enough to take this road, you can be assured of a beautiful and
traditional Greek experience at the top.
