Most of the island singers move around the resorts during the week – so you should be able to catch a few of them in your resort at some point during your holiday in Zante. Make sure you look out for the upcoming events around the resorts as there are some great singers resident on the island during the summer season.

Occasionally, British acts are brought over for a one-night-only show on the island. In recent years, Elvis and Robbie Williams impersonators, the Cheeky Girls, aswell as world class DJs, came to Zakynthos to perform for the tourist crowds.

The larger resorts in Zakynthos (Laganas, Kalamaki, Tsilivi, Argassi, Alykes and Alykanas) all provide a lively selection of cafes, tavernas and bars with a variety of music and entertainment to suit your holiday mood. Whether you choose traditional Greek nightlife entertainment or entertainment with an international flavor, you will easily find many venues where you will enjoy the nightlife in all of the main resorts in Zakynthos.

I have outlined my some of the most popular Zante resort nightlife spots below.

You won’t find any nightclubs or Greek nights in Zante Town as this is the traditional center of the island rather than a tourist resort. However, Zante Town is a fantastic place to visit in the evening for a really traditional taste of charming Greek Island life.

Zakynthos Town, twinkling by night, is perfect for a pleasant evening stroll. You can meander around the harbour road known as the Strada Marina, or alternatively, take a starlight ride in a horse drawn carriage.

There are also a number of lovely places to eat, and charming Greek cafes to sit and enjoy a drink on the hot summers nights. St Marcos Square is the real hub of cafes, bars, and taverna restaurants. San Marco Cafe Bar, in St Marcos Square, has really comfortable furnishings, both indoor and out, and provides great service and an extensive snack menu. You’ll spend a lovely evening at San Marco, chilling outside under the light of the moon and stars!

Base cafe bar, just a few doors along from San Marco, open from morning till late in the evening, is a definite a favourite with the local people of Zakynthos as well. Base is a great bar in the evenings to sit, chat, and people watch, with a great selection of DJ music playing in the background.

Up the hill from Zante Town, is the charming Greek village of Bochali. No trip to Zakynthos Town can be complete without a visit up the hill to Bohali. You will be amazed by the most magnificent panoramic view of Zakynthos Port and Town. The views from here in the evening are quite breath taking. Several restaurants, tavernas, and outdoor cafe and cocktail bars provide relaxing facilities inside or outdoors, with a balmy summer breeze keeping you cool.

From the main square in Bohali, if you walk about one hundred meters up the hill, you’ll arrive at one of the most chic night time venues on the island, Movida. This outdoor bar/club serves cocktails and nibbles. Here you can relax on an expansive balcony terrace outdoors, enjoying a drink and magnificent views. Movida gets really busy in the peak summer months and always has a very happening vibe.

The resort of Laganas is the most heavily geared towards nightlife on the island of Zante. The main road is home to the biggest clubs on the island, such as Zeroes, Rescues and Cocktails and Dreams. This is a popular spot for young Brits looking for some fun in the sun. With loud music and cheap drinks, you will find this a very busy resort in the middle of August.

Personally, we prefer the beachfront restaurants and bars in Laganas – they are a calmer, cooler, right on the sea and far more up-market. As you look at the sea, on the left handside of the beach you will find Cool Peppers Restaurant and Bistro Beach Bar. They are open from morning till late at night. They are located right on the sea with great decor and a fantastic ambience. Cool Peppers has the best DJ in Zakynthos, ensuring great music to match the fantastic food. Cool Peppers is spacious and really comfortable, with a creative and tasty menu. Plus, the service at Cool Peppers on Laganas beach is super-friendly - you will want to go back again and again.

On the right hand side of Laganas Beach you will find Cheers, Med Version, and Cafe del. Med Version Restaurant in Laganas, Zakynthos, provides exceptional modern decor, a great variety of food on the menu and beautiful views over to Cameo Island in the distance. With fine Mediterranean and international cuisine, you can be sure of a great meal in a classical ambience as the waves roll in. There is also scheduled weekly musical entertainment at Med Version restaurant and lounge bar.

Right next door to Med Version on Laganas beach, is the hip and trendy Cheers bar, which is open till late. This is a great chill out bar with a real eastern feel. They have lounge chairs on the beach at night, really cool music and a variety of beverages. Cheers is popular with the local people of Zakynthos as well as tourists – always a good sign!

A little further up from Cheers, on the right hand side of Laganas Beach, you will find Vezal and Cafe del Mar.

One of the best Greek nights in Laganas is hosted at the Vezal Greek restaurant. You will really enjoy a great meal under the palm umbrellas at Vezal and after dinner you can dance the night away Greek style. The Vezal Greek nights are renowned for having the best Greek bouzouki and Greek dancers on the island - all waiting to teach you a Greek step or two!

Just a few kilometres from Laganas, the neighbouring resort of Kalamaki is definitely a far calmer night time experience. There are a number of bars, restaurants and entertainment shows available here, but it does not have the same club culture that you will find in Laganas. You will find family oriented Karaoke bars and even an Irish Pub in Kalamki – plenty to keep you entertained in the evening during your holiday in Zakynthos.

Kalamaki is a great option if you would like a few big nights out in Laganas, the main strip of Laganas is just five minutes taxi drive from Kalamki, but want a quieter resort for the rest of your stay.

You are spoilt for choice in the Zante resort of Argassi with plenty restaurants, tavernas and fast food facilities, serving Greek and international cuisine. You can eat in the heart of the resort, or at one of the restaurants located right on the sea.

One of our favourite restaurants on the island of Zante is locate at the entrance to Argassi resort. Just after Argassi church, you will see a sign shaped like an orange. This is hidden treasure is Portokali (meaning Orange in Greek). One of the most popular restaurants among the Greeks on the island of Zante, they serve delicious food in a setting of fairy lights and hamoks hung between the trees. They also have a fantastic bar, serving fabulous cocktails late into the evening.

As Argassi is only a few kilometres outside of Zante Town, it is really easy to get a bus or taxi into Zakynthos Town from here for an evening meal, a drink or just a wander around the shops.

For later in the evening in Argassi, there are a number of popular bars in the centre of the resort, many of which provide live entertainment during the summer months. Most of the main island singers perform in Argassi at some point during the week – check the boards outside the bars for dates and starting times.

The bars in Argassi range from quiet cocktail bars, to more lively nightclubs, albeit much smaller than those in Laganas. For a more recreational pursuit in Argassi, you can try a game of mini-golf. There are two mini-golf courses in Argassi which are always popular with all the family.

Located on the outskirts of Argassi resorts are the most popular Greek nightclubs on the island. On the way into Argassi from town you will see three clubs right next to the sea. The middle club, Barrage, is always popular with the local Greek – set under palm trees, and with statues scattered around, this is a very classy club, often bringing in star DJs, and always serving great drinks. On the way out of Argassi, as you go up the hill to Vasilikos, you will spot another two Greek clubs – Island and Koutsis. Island is a fantastic bar – painted in traditional blue and white, with amazing views down over Argassi to Zante Town, this is a fantastic place to enjoy an evening drink in true Greek Island style.

Tsilivi is one of the largest resorts on the island, and does have a great selection of nightlife on offer – but without the predominance of clubs that you find in Laganas. In the heart of Tsilivi resort there is a mixture of cocktail bars, sports bars, karaoke bars, traditional tavernas, fast food places and international cuisine restaurants.

Our favourite place to eat in Tsilivi has to be the Balcony Hotel, located on the top of the cliff at the right hand side of Tsilivi Beach. Make sure you time your meal to coincide with sunset and you will be treated to a spectacular treat. The views here are breath-taking, revealing huge expanses of Ionian Sea all the way over to the neighbouring island of Kefalonia in the distance.

Another of my favourite restaurants in Tsilivi is the Sweet Revenge Diner. They have a great menu choice, with really healthy and organic foods on the menu. They also do a great frappes and light meals during the day.

Alykes and Alykanas, two neighbouring resorts on the East Coast of Zante, provide a very laid back resort destination in Zakynthos. Both resorts have a variety of tavernas and restaurants, as well as a few bars for an evening drink. Many of the Greek tavernas in Alykes and Alykanas host Greek nights, where you will enjoy great Greek music and dancing. The larger hotels also provide hotel entertainment, usually outdoor around the pool.

Both Alykes and Alykanas are two of the most family-orientated resorts, ideal for couples with children who don’t want nightclubs keeping them awake at night. These resorts are also popular with couples who are looking for a really peaceful Greek Island experience – but with enough resort options to enjoy a nice meal and a few shops to explore.

The Olympic Cuisine Bar in Alykes is considered to be among the top five star restaurants in Greece – and is definitely one of our favourite places to eat in Zante. You can be sure of a fantastic meal and great service at the Olympic Kitchen bar, right in the heart of the Alykes resort. With prices that are extremely affordable, you will want to return to the Olympic Kitchen bar in Alykes time and again.

Established in 1981, Bobby's prestigious Olympic Cuisine Bar has been serving customers with its traditional cuisine and friendly atmosphere year after year. Tourists travel from all over Zakynthos to sample the extraordinary cuisine at the Olympic Kitchen bar, so it is worth booking in advance to secure your table. You can have a look at their website, www.olympicbar.com, for menus and more information.

There is very little nightlife in the region of Vasilikos. This area is far more calm and quiet, with just a few traditional tavernas and one or two bars in the whole region.

The Coffee House, located in the heart of Vasilikos village, is popular with touists who return year after year to enjoy the lovely region of Vasilikos. In the evenings the Coffee House becomes a relaxed bar, often with live entertainment. A little further up the road, on the way out of Vasilikos Village is Locos – another traditional Greek Island spot where you can enjoy live music and plenty of dancing.

Vasilikos is really ideal for people who want to get away from it all and are looking for quiet nights listening to the sound of the sea.

Porto Koukla is a tiny resort, consisting of two hotels, a tavern and a village store, just a few kilometres outside of Laganas. While this is a very peaceful place to stay, there is a great bar here, right on the beach, well worth visiting during your holiday in Zante.

The Tropics Bar, found downstairs at the Gloria Maris Hotel in Porto Koukla, is open to all. The Tropics Bar has a really chilled out relaxed ambience in the evening. They often host a full moon party in the busier summer months which is great fun, with good music, and sparkling views over the sea to Marathonisi Island in the distance.

The region of the Far North of Zante is really very peaceful, with expanses of untouched land and very little tourist development. If you choose to stay up in the north in the villas and hotels located around the area, you will enjoy an evening at the Mahogani Arts cafe, situated just above the entrance to St Nicholas Port village.

This unique arts cafe has a fantastic atmosphere surrounded with world-class art on display, including modern paintings and intriguing sculptures. With cream decor, sofas and tables, and with great cocktails and music, this is a fabulous cafe to frequent in the Far North of Zakynthos. For more information you can call the Mahogani Art Cafe on (0030) 26950 31534.
