If you are planning to include a trip along the West Coast of
Zakynthos in your holiday schedule, we really recommend stopping at
Limnionas for a swim and a bite to eat. The fiord here is really
spectacular, with fantastic deep water swimming. You can dry off in the
sun and then head on up to the Limnionas Restaurant for a great Greek
Island lunch or dinner overlooking the beautiful turquoise and sapphire
waters of Limnionas.
Limnionas is located on the West Coast, accessible by road from the
village of Agios Leon. The drive down is spectacular in itself, with
beautiful views over the cliffs of western Zante.
Once you reach Limnionas fiord you will be amazed by the picturesque
landscape. The cove at Limnionas is filled with bright blue waters which
are striking against the stark cliff face in this area.
From Limnionas you can take a flying leap from the rocks into the sea
below. This is a fun chance for an adrenaline buzz if you are keen!
Alternatively, you can dive in from slightly lower heights. The swimming
here is very different from the sandy beaches of the south and east
coasts of the island. Deep seas predominate on the west coast of
Zakynthos and at Limionas you can be sure that your toes won’t touch the
bottom. This environment is perfect for snorkelling with lots of caves
to explore.
After your swim you can either relax on the rock platforms over head
up to the taverna for a delicious Greek meal. The taverna at Limnionas
boasts spectacular views over the sea. If that wasn’t enough, their food
is traditional Greek at its best. This is one of the most popular
restaurants with Zakynthian locals and you can’t get a much better
recommendation than that!
